H.E President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attends Groundbreaking Ceremony of MIFCO Fisheries Complex in HDh. Ihavandhoo

His Excellency, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Haa Alif, Ihavandhoo Fisheries Complex organised by the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO).This initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening the fisheries sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, His Excellency President, Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the importance of the project, stating, "This development represents a major development for the fishing sector in the northern atolls." President also stated that the establishment and operationalization of the Fisheries Complex in H.A. Ihavandhoo will create 150 jobs and further develop the fishing sector.

Site construction is set to begin in May, with the facility expected to be completed within 18 months. The foundation stone was laid today by Fisheries Minister, Ahmed Shiyam, MIFCO CEO Dr. Vitaly Lubimov, and Ihavandhoo Council President Ahmed Sabah.

The fisheries complex, valued at MVR 474 million, is designed to provide infrastructure for fish processing and storage. The facility will include a 1,000-tonne cold storage capacity, a 50-tonne brine freezing capacity, administrative offices and warehouse facilities, a 1,000-metre jetty with a 7-metre depth, and three separate fish landing areas with 4.5-metre-deep jetties.
