Inauguration of the 5th Maldives Marine Science Symposium 2024

Minister Ahmed Shiyam officially inaugurated the 5th Maldives Marine Science Symposium, hosted by Maldives Marine Research Institute. The seminar was scheduled from July 24 – July 25 at MNU Auditorium.

Speaking after the official inauguration ceremony, Minister Ahmed Shiyam highlighted the importance of the Marine Science Symposium, which will provide an invaluable platform for marine scientists to share their work through collaborations and drive forward the frontiers of marine science.

Furthermore, Minister also stated that MMRI has produced significant research on fisheries, Marine Ecosystems and Mariculture. The Institute’s Scientific outputs have been instrumental in shaping national policies and the Maldives engagements with regional bodies that manage various fisheries and ocean resources.

This year’s symposium, features of research papers on topics, covering coral and reef ecology, fisheries and aquaculture, sharks and rays, marine megafauna, mangroves, seagrasses, and other relevant marine subjects.

The symposium is attended by marines scientists, NGOs, students, marine biologist, MMRI staff, Independent researchers locally and internationally.
