Mr. Ahmed Shiyam, an influential figure in Maldivian politics and governance, has navigated through diverse industries, bringing a unique blend of expertise and experience to his role as the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, appointed in November 2023.
His professional journey embarked in the tourism industry, where he enhanced his managerial skills from 1999 to 2007, and his service continued in the private sector of the Maldives in the field of Sales and Marketing. His transition into politics was marked by an ambitious leap as he assumed the position of Vice President of the Progressive Party of Maldives, a pivotal role within one of the country's largest political entities, comprising over 38,000 registered members.
Ahmed Shiyam's incursion into parliamentary service commenced on May 1, 2014, representing the Naifaru Constituency. During his tenure, his dedication and proactive approach made him an impactful member until November 2023, when he was appointed as the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.Shiyam's academic pursuit has been equally eminent, characterized by a quest for diverse knowledge domains. In 2012, he completed a Diploma in Diplomacy and World Affairs from BTDI, Sri Lanka, followed by a postgraduate diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership, also in Sri Lanka. His academic endeavors culminated in a Master's in Business Administration from NUCB Business School in Japan in 2013.Multilingual and multicultural, Mr. Shiyam is fluent in Japanese and proficient in German, reflecting his commitment to embracing different cultures and languages.
