FAO Representative Meets Senior Officials to Advance Fisheries and Aquaculture Development in the Maldives.

The Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to the Maldives, His Excellency Sharan Vimlendra, met with senior officials from the Ministry to discuss ongoing and future collaboration in the fisheries sector.
During the meeting, H.E. Sharan Vimlendra provided an update on the Technical Cooperation Programme – Accelerating Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (TCP-AFAD), and highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing funds allocated for the fisheries sector.
The discussions also covered key areas of collaboration, including the application of FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) to targeted small-scale initiatives derived from broader sectoral priorities. The meeting further addressed FAO’s support for the development of the Ocean Resources Act. He emphasised that the timing is critical for establishing an FAO office in the Maldives, as it would strengthen cooperation and ensure the effective implementation of initiatives in the future.
Senior officials in attendance included State Minister Aminath Hussain, Permanent Secretary Dr. Aminath Shafia, Director Fathimath Fiuna, and Director, Maleeha Haleem.
