Minister Ahmed Shiyam Reviews Blue Economy Project Progress with JICA Senior Officials

Minister Ahmed Shiyam held a productive meeting with senior officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) headquarters. The meeting aimed to review the progress of the ongoing project designed to promote the Blue Economy within the fisheries sector.

Key initiatives under Blue Economy project focus on improving yellowfin tuna quality standards, upgrading bait tanks in current vessel designs to extend the longevity of bait, and advancing value-addition efforts in Raa, Maduvveri, Faafu, Nilandhoo, and Meemu Dhiggaru.

Minister Ahmed Shiyam expressed his gratitude to JICA and the Government of Japan for their longstanding partnership and continued support in developing the fisheries sector in the Maldives.

Minister Ahmed Shiyam was accompanied to the meeting by Minister of State Dr Amzath Ahmed, Minister of State Mohamed Muthalib, Permanent Secretary Dr Aminath Shafia, Director General Dr Hussain Sinan, Director General Adam Manik, and Director Mohamed Shimal.
