“Moodhu Fest” 2025 event Concludes Successfully - World Oceans Day Celebration

“Moodhu Fest” 2025 event featured marine conservation activities, educational stalls and diving sessions to raise awareness about sustainable fishing and ocean protection.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has successfully concluded the "Moodhu Fest" event, held to celebrate the World Oceans Day. The event took place today from 13:00 to 18:00 at the Hulhumalé Beach Area.

"Moodhu Fest" was organised to encourage youth and children to protect and value the ocean and marine environment. The event aimed to raise awareness about marine conservation and educate the public on the sustainable use of marine resources.

The event was attended by the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kong Xian, and Ministry staff.

Speaking at the opening of the Moodhu Fest event, Minister Ahmed Shiyam emphasised that livelihoods of Maldivians is built upon the ocean and its resources. Minister also highlighted that protecting marine ecosystems is essential for sustaining the income of Maldivian families.

One of the key events of the celebrations was the "Discovery Dive" programme, conducted in collaboration with local Dive Centres. More than 40 children participated in this activity, which was designed to show the beauty of the ocean and provide youth and children with information about marine life.

 

The event also featured numerous stalls offering insights into the importance of ocean conservation. In addition, various activities were conducted at the stalls to provide information on opportunities for sustainable development in marine science and fisheries. Participating organisations included relevant Government Ministries, Private Businesses, Environmental Protection Associations, and food service providers

Additionally, prizes were awarded to the winners of the 'Ocean Quiz' competition organised by the Ministry in recognition of World Oceans Day 2025.
