Minister Ahmed Shiyam Highlights 'From Maldives' National Brand as Strategic Initiative to Address Export Challenges and Enhance Global Market Access.

Minister Ahmed Shiyam stated that the newly launched 'From Maldives' brand will provide solutions to the challenges faced in introducing Maldivian products to international markets.
The Minister made these remarks at the Maldives-UK Business Forum, the eighth in the Global Series, held as part of the Minister's ongoing official visit to the United Kingdom.
Minister Ahmed Shiyam highlighted the international market challenges faced by the Maldivian fishing industry. He emphasised that paying high tariffs in major global markets remains the biggest challenge for the Maldives.
In his speech, the Minister highlighted that large industrial fleets that do not operate sustainably have duty-free access, the Maldives still has to pay high tariffs in crucial markets, particularly in the northern hemisphere. Minister also noted, that this is one of the key reasons why the newly launched 'From Maldives' national brand holds particular significance.
The Minister expressed that the initiative would offer relief to the challenges faced by Maldivian fishermen. In addition, outlined the objective of ensuring that the true value of Maldivian products is recognised in the global marketplace, with the aim of establishing them as internationally accepted commodities.
