Biography
Dr. Amzath was appointed as State Minister at the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MoFOR) in November 2023, marking a significant milestone in a career characterized by unwavering dedication and expertise.
His journey in government service commenced as an Accounts Assistant Trainee at the President's Office in August 2002. Over nearly a decade of public service, Dr. Amzath's career path was defined by diverse roles, spanning from his early days at the President's Office to serving as an Economic Counselor at the Maldives Embassy in Beijing. This journey showcased his proficiency in various domains, including economics, accounting, project management, international relation, economic and administrative policy.
Before joining the ministry, Dr. Amzath served as a Research Associate at Villa College from 2021 to 2023. During this tenure, he not only excelled as a researcher and research manager but also took on the responsibility of coordinating the annual research conference and managing the research grant scheme.
His proficiency in Chinese language, coupled with over 15 years of experience in China, led to his appointment as the local director of the Chinese Language Center at Villa College. In this role, he demonstrated his commitment to fostering cultural and linguistic diversity within the academic community. Dr. Amzath was selected to represent the Academic staff on the Villa College Academic Senate in 2023, further solidifying his position as a respected figure in the institution's academic leadership.
Graduating with a Bachelor's in Accounting from Shanghai University, followed by a Master's in Management Accounting, and later a Doctorate in Management Science and Engineering from the same institution, Dr. Amzath's academic pursuit was relentless. Recognition of his academic achievements came in the form of prestigious awards, including the Presidential Medal for attaining the highest academic qualification in the Maldives National Qualifications Framework (Ph.D.) and the Best Staff Award from Villa College in November 2021.
Assuming the role of State Minister at the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Dr. Amzath brings with him a wealth of experience, an impressive academic pedigree, and a steadfast commitment to enhancing policies that safeguard marine resources and foster sustainable growth.
