Agreement Signed for Land Reclamation to Establishment of Fish Processing Factory in Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyori

A special ceremony was held today to mark a major milestone in the government’s efforts to accelerate nationwide development. During the event held at Barceló Nasandhura, agreements were signed with private contractors to carry out people-focused projects, strengthening partnerships aimed at driving development across the country.

One of key highlight of the event was the signing of an agreement with Sen International Private Limited for land reclamation and harbour construction in Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyoaree, to facilitate the establishment of a fish processing factory. The project encompasses the reclamation of 6.5 hectares of land and the construction of harbour facilities that are essential to support the factory’s operational requirements.

The Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyoaree fish factory is expected to drive development in the region. It will boost the local economy, create employment opportunities, and provide fishermen with fairer prices for their daily catch. This initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the fishing industry, which remains a vital pillar of the Maldivian economy.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s participation in the ceremony highlights the government’s emphasis on development projects that enhance the livelihoods of citizens. The fishing industry is one of the main pillars of the Maldivian economy. The Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyoaree Fish Factory is expected to enable fishermen to sell their daily catch at fair prices, create new employment opportunities, and improve the socio-economic conditions of the island community.
